Nilüfer Şaşmazer holds an MA in Cultural and Artistic Project Management from Université Lumière Lyon II, France. Between 2012 and 2016, she worked as a writer and editor for Istanbul Art News, a monthly art publication. Since 2017, she has worked as an independent editor on various exhibition publications and artist books, including monographs on Füreya Koral (2017), Füsun Onur (2021) and Ahmet Doğu İpek (2025). Her writing has appeared in a wide range of print and online publications. She has also contributed texts to exhibition and artist publications such as Ali Kazma: Sentimental (Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, 2022), Füsun Onur Retrospective (Ludwig Museum Cologne, 2023) and Nazım Ünal Yılmaz’s Brushman (2026).
Exhibitions she has curated include La Ventura (Ark Kültür, 2016), Dark Deep Darkness and Splendor (Galerist, 2017), Füreya (Akaretler, 2017), Fugue (Evliyagil Museum, 2019), Petrified Dreams (Galeri Nev Istanbul, 2022) and Translating Worlds (Depo Istanbul, 2023). Şaşmazer first collaborated with Arter in 2023 on Nuri Kuzucan’s solo exhibition Passage and joined the institution’s curatorial team in 2024. To date, she has curated Maaria Wirkkala’s Landing Prohibited (2024), Angelica Mesiti’s Future Perfect Continuous (2025), Under Pressure Above Water (2025) and Hera Büyüktaşcıyan’s Phantom Quartet (2025) at Arter, where she continues to work.
