Mehtap Baydu studied sculpture at Hacettepe University before completing her master’s degree at Kunsthochschule Kassel under the supervision of Prof. Dorothee von Windheim.
Baydu’s practice brings together performance, sculpture, photography and video, approaching the body as a social, political and symbolic space and focusing on issues such as gender, identity and narratives rendered invisible. Combining performative strategies with different materials and textures, her works, often conceived for specific sites, explore contact and interaction between bodies and objects. Baydu served as a visiting professor at the Berlin Academy of Arts in 2024 and continues to live and work in Berlin.
Mehtap Baydu provides mentoring support for Özlem Köse.
