The First Festival unravels photographs from rehearsals and concerts of the 1st Istanbul Festival that took place in 1973, taken by one of the leading photography artists in Turkey, Ozan Sağdıç. The book was published as part of İKSV’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

The idea behind the book emerged during the process of research for İKSV’s 40-years-long institutional history, with the direction of the music author and Istanbul Music Festival’s Advisory Board Member Serhan Yedig. The First Festival features the interview held with Ozan Sağdıç about his voluntary journey to Istanbul from Ankara to document the 1st Istanbul Festival, followed by photographs from 24 different events that include, but not limited to, the Opening Concert of the 1st Istanbul Festival, Yunus Emre Oratorio performed by Robert Wagner in the company of the State Opera Chorus and Orchestra, and unique moments from the rehearsals that testify to the excitement behind stages.
