In the first period of the project Be Mobile – Create Together! carried out in collaboration with four culture institutes in Turkey – French Cultural Center, the Embassy of Netherlands, Goethe Institute, and Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) – artists residing in the artist residencies abroad started to display and share their productions.

Realized as part of the E.U.-Turkey Intercultural Dialogue Program supported by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, the project provides emerging artists and authors with the opportunity to be welcomed at the homes of prominent artists in France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Turkey.

As part of the project that is scheduled to continue between September 2019 and June 2020, 30 artists will be residing in artist residencies focusing on different disciplines in Paris, Cassis, and Issy-les-Moulineaux in France; in Dresden, Berlin, and Stuttgart in Germany; in Amsterdam, Maastricht, and the Hague in the Netherlands; in Istanbul, Bursa, Ayvalık, and Şirince in Turkey at different times and for various durations.

In June, 10 out of 30 artists were matched with 13 artist residencies with experience in their preference and fields of interest and, since September, they have been creating works in France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Turkey.

Artists from Turkey who were chosen to participate in the program reside in France, Germany, and the Netherlands and artists from these countries are welcomed in Turkey – they all earn the opportunity to do research and create while making new friends and connections in different geographies.

The artists will continue to stay at artist residencies in four countries until June 2020.

The installation YAKAMOZ by Abel Korinsky

Photography by: Meltem Sarımetin

Continuing his works in Istanbul since September 5, sound artist Abel Korinsky from Berlin created a light and sound installation which was exhibited at Haydarpaşa Ferry Port between December 6 and 15. Aiming to bring a brand new sensual and emotional access to venues in his works, Korinsky used sound and light technology in his installation YAKAMOZ and invited the guests of the port to dive deep into a magical world. While the audience was enveloped by impressive sounds and visual projections accompanied with lights, they could also have a different experience of this historical building, designed by famous architect Vedat Tek (1873-1942) in 1917 and decorated with Kütahya tiles by master ceramic artist Hafız Mehmed Emin Efendi (1872-1922).

The opening of YAKAMOZ took place on the evening of December 5, Thursday, with a live electronic music performance by the artist. The visitors were first taken on an acoustic journey inspired by the club culture in Berlin and the melancholic atmosphere of Istanbul. Then, the multichannel, live system of YAKAMOZ presented a brand new auditory experience jumping out of Istanbul’s unique space.
