Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, Filmekimi meets its audience October 8-15 this year. Celebrating its 10th year, Filmekimi has also a surprise: for the first time this year, Filmekimi goes beyond the borders of Istanbul to meet movie lovers in five other cities of Turkey.

Almost 40 movies including those awarded at prestigious festivals, premiered in Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Toronto, along with latest features from masters of cinema will be screened in Filmekimi. With its rich programme, Filmekimi will take place on October 8-15, for 8 days in 4 movie theatres: Beyoğlu Atlas and Beyoğlu Movie Theatres, as well as Nişantaşı City's and Cinebonus Maçka G-Mall movie theatres.

Since its inception in 2002, Filmekimi has gathered the immense attention of Istanbulite filmlovers, and last year, had reached its peak with an audience of 43,000.

The programme of Filmekimi and the additional cities were announced at a press conference held at Cezayir Restaurant on September 6. In her speech, Azize Tan, Director of the Istanbul Film Festival said: "At its 10th year Filmekimi is now one of the most significant film events of Turkey. With close to 100% filled capacity in just one week, it is the harbinger of the new season. Filmekimi, which in its first years set off with 20 movies in one single movie theatre, has grown into a festival anticipated by audiences and covering four movie theatres with almost 40 movies. In our 10th year, with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, we are glad to organise an event where screenings are to be held in İzmir, Bursa, Konya, Trabzon and Diyarbakır and that embraces Turkey."

In its 10th year Filmekimi presents the best and the most recent examples of films not only in Istanbul but also in five different cities of Turkey. This year, within the scope of Filmekimi, with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, besides Istanbul, screenings will be held on weekends in İzmir, Bursa, Konya, Trabzon and Diyarbakır to harbinger the new movie season.
