Staatskapelle Berlin & Daniel Barenboim

Zorlu Performing Arts Center

The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts hosts the great maestro Daniel Barenboim with one of the world's oldest and most eminent orchestras, Staatskapelle Berlin, at the Zorlu Center PAC on Thursday, 15 May.

Staatskapelle Berlin's long-time affiliation with Wagner's works was crowned with a Grammy Award for the Tannhauser album they recorded with Barenboim conducting. The orchestra will be playing two excerpts from Wagner's "Tristan and Isolde", which they had first played back in 1876 under the baton of the composer himself. This concert will also feature Wagner's "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg Overture", as well as the "2nd Symphony" by Elgar.

"The audience response at the close of this extraordinary Proms performance founded on Daniel Barenboim's conducting of the Staatskapelle Berlin suggested that cumulative expectations - already high - had in fact been exceeded," reads the review in the Guardian (29 July 2013), giving a clue on what to expect in this concert, which will definitely be a highlight of the season in Turkey.
