2009 Venice Youth Jury: Leoncino d'oro
Following the successes of Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11, and Sicko, Michael Moore presents his critique of capitalism, an issue he has been examining throughout his career. With both humour and outrage, the film asks this taboo question following the financial crisis that culminated with the Wall Street rescue (or “financial coup d'etat as he calls it): What is the price that we pay for the love of capitalism? The film which had its world premiere at Venice Film Festival in September, shows Moore try to take an empty bag into a bailed-out bank, asking “the money back for the American people,” pop quiz Wall Street bankers, and explore the evil symptoms of a love affair gone astray.
