The Belgian Dardenne Brothers are known for their realistic filmmaking, and had in 2005 won the Palm d’Or with L’Enfant / The Child. Also in a similar vein, Lorna’s Silence premiered in competition at Cannes in May 2008. The eponymous character of the title, Lorna, is a young Albanian woman living in Belgium, who becomes an accomplice to a diabolical plan devised by the sly Fabio. Fabio has orchestrated a sham marriage between her and Claudy which would allow her to obtain Belgian citizenship and then she would marry a Russian Mafioso willing to pay a lot of money to acquire the same quickly. However, for this second marriage to be possible, Fabio has planned to kill Claudy. Will Lorna keep silent?
