Symposium on Culture of Istanbul Lifestyle ended with great enthusiasm...
Organized by İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, the Symposium on Culture of Istanbul Lifestyle took place at Nişantaşı The Sofa Hotel between November 9th and 11th, 2006.
Inaugurated by the Governor of Istanbul, Dr. Mimar Kadir Topbaş, Chairman of Istanbul Chamber of Industry, Tanıl Küçük, and the Chairman of İKSV, Şakir Eczacıbaşı, the symposium was received with great interest by the residents of Istanbul - An average of 200 visitors was achieved on all three days of the symposium.
34 experts participated with their speeches on a wide range of topics ranging from "City and Life" to "Emigration and Culture" , "Language, Education and Youth" , "Media" , "Art Events" , "Music" , "Culinary Culture" , "Historical Heritage and Museum Management" and to "The Effects of the Financial World on Lifestyle Culture" .
Following the completion of the sessions on November 11th, Saturday, a General Discussion was held which was was chaired by Şakir Eczacıbaşı, Prof. Dr. Metin Sözen, Architect Oktay Ekinci, Prof. Dr. Ufuk Esin and Dr. Öztin Akgüç. During the General Discussion, the topics were shaped according to the demands of the speakers and the audience. “Symposium on Culture of Istanbul Lifestyle II” is expected to be held in May 2007 and cover topics like "Sports", "Minorities" , "Cooperation among NGOs" , "City and Violence" , "The Position of the Handicapped in City Life" , "Maritime Culture" and "Cultural Education in Schools”.
The presentations made during the symposium will be printed collectively by İKSV in one special book and be available in 2007 together with other İKSV publications.
