Upon Şakir Eczacıbaşı's passing away, the Board of Directors of İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts held an emergency meeting on Friday, February 5th, 2010. At the meeting, Bülent Eczacıbaşı was first elected as a member of the board of directors to the now vacant position of Şakir Eczacıbaşı in the board, and then he was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of İKSV. »»

Salon, the performance centre in the new İKSV building in Şişhane, opens. Salon, located at the entrance and first floors of İKSV’s new building, will become a new stop on the line joining Galata and Şişhane, at the crossroads of the city’s hub of culture and arts. Salon will host classical, jazz, rock, alternative and world music concerts, theatre and dance performances along with activities for children, panels and conferences. »»

İKSV presented its new building Deniz Palas at a press preview realised at the Foundation’s new performance venue, Salon. Following the introductory speeches, the guests were introduced to different aspects of the building, the İKSV Design shop, Peralı Brasserie, and X Restaurant & Bar, as well as the artworks of 21 contemporary artists, situated around the building.

One of the most anticipated rock bands of all time, U2 will perform a concert in İstanbul, on September 6, 2010, as part of its 360° TOUR. A production of Live Nation, the concert is realised within the framework of İstanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture events, in collaboration with Pozitif and İKSV. We are in deep sorrow to announce that Şakir Eczacıbaşı, photographer, author, a man of culture, and the chairman of our Board of Directors since 1993, passed away on January 23, 2010, in American Hospital, where he had been under treatment.

Şakir Eczacıbaşı’s funeral took place at the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery, following the noon prayer at Teşvikiye Mosque. »»
