"Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" was published in 2011, went straight up to number 1 in children's literature where it stayed for 45 weeks. Two follow-up novels were published, both written by Riggs: "Hollow City" in 2014 and "Library of Souls" in 2016.
Riggs: "I grew up loving Tim's movies. 'Edward Scissorhands' and 'Beetlejuice' and' Ed Wood' and 'Pee-Wee's Big Adventure' - all these beautiful, quirky films about outsiders searching for their place in the world appealed to me. In the meantime, Burton comments for Riggs: "The book had elements of a folk tale, or a fable. If you go back before films, fairy tales were these horrible, graphic stories."
"Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" follows Tim Burton's "Big Eyes". The film's screenwriter is Jane Goldman, who had co-scripted the blockbusters "Kingsman", "X-Men: First Class", "Kick-Ass" and "Stardust".
