Salih Emre Şahin was born 1995 in Ankara. Having started his career in music by playing the piano at a young age, Şahin has chosen the contrabass, an instrument that he wanted to play the most, following the elementary school and started studying at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory in 2006. In 2010, he got admitted both by Purcell and Yehudi Menuhin Music Schools with scholarships, graduating from Purcell in July 2013. Salih Emre Şahin performed in London’s leading concert halls as a member of the Purcell School Symphonic Orchestra. He received his first international prize in the contrabass competition organised within the scope of BASS 2008 in Paris and went on to collect the third prize at “Passion of Music 2010” International Young Musicians competition organised by The American Association for Development of the Gifted and Talented; the first prize at the young segment of the contrabass competition organised as part of BASS 2012 in Copenhagen; the third prize at Purcell Music School Concerto Competition in 2013; and lastly the first prize at the Royal Academy of Music’s Bach Competition for Strings. He was selected for the Academy Strings orchestra conducted by Maxim Vengerov. He continues his education at London Royal Academy of Music and plays with the symphonic orchestra of the academy.
