ADEL ABDESSEMED
Adel Abdessemed was born in Constantine, Algeria in 1971, lives and works in Paris. He graduated from the Fine Arts National School, Lyon in 1998. Abdessemed works across video, animation, performance and sculptural installation. With both artistic and political issues at the heart of his work, Abdessemed produced a striking artifact of death in the monumental “Habibi” (2003), whereas in “God is Design” (2005) he focused on the philosophical aspects of design and rhythm. Abdessemed has exhibited his work at Airs de Paris in Centre Pompidou (2007), Notre Histoire at Le Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2006), São Paulo Biennial (2006), Shanghai Biennale (2004), Mori Museum, Tokyo, Venice Biennale (2003), Yokohama Triennial, Japan, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center (New York), Tirana Biennial, Albania (2001), Manifesta 3, Slovenia, Busan Biennale, South Korea, and Modern Art Museum of Paris (2000). His solo exhibitions include Gallery Kamel Mennour, Paris (2005), MAMCO, Geneva, Switzerland (2004) and FRAC Champagne Ardenne (2004). |
