16th International İstanbul Jazz Festival was held between July 2-15, 2009. Once more, July in İstanbul was brighter with the Festival's stars. Legendary names of the music world and icons of jazz, rock, funk, folk and world music visited the city. Over 25.000 people attended the Festival.

In addition to the major concerts of the festival which took place in spectacular venues such as Cemil Topuzlu Open Air Theatre, The Marmara Esma Sultan, Sepetciler Kasri, İstanbul Modern, Emek Movie Theatre, Cemal Resit Rey Concert Hall, Istinye Park, and Hagia Eirene Museum; talented musicians from national and international scene performed their uniquely impressive works in Nardis Jazz Club within the program of European Jazz Club. Concerts and street performances carried the enthusiasm of the festival out on to the streets of Istanbul; Young Jazz, Jazz Boat and Balkan Boat painted the city in Jazz.
